Repose Arden Rise and Recline 50 Stone and 25 Stone Leg Rest
The Arden Bariatric is suitable for either a health or home environment. It offers clients and carers unique movement options that support good posture, pressure management and independent living.
The four-motor mechanism is ideal for:
- Those clients who are unable to independently shift their weight either in a reclined or seated position.
- Those with poor skin integrity where there is a high risk of skin breakdown.
- Those clients with complex needs that require carer support to change position without putting their own health at risk whilst carrying out positional changes.
The back recline works independently of the leg rest enabling a wide range of relaxing positions, from sitting upright and raising the leg rest to relieve tired legs to a fully reclined resting position. The leg elevation can support reduction in oedema and fluid retention. This reduced fluid in the lower limbs allows a user to maintain their standing and walking abilities. The rise position supports standing, enabling the person to walk away more easily.
The Arden Bariatric has other very important features that combine with the mechanism movements to produce a unique plus-sized seating solution:
- Accommodating the Gluteal Shelf
This is achieved through the:
- Option to increase the seat depth with easy to fit adjuster pads.
- Reduced lumbar padding in the backrest which creates a recess.
- Set back calf rests, which can support excess tissue in this area thus supporting natural flexion.
- A Seat Height starting at 16"
This allows the person to get the exact chair they need to support health, well-being and independence without compromise.
Key Features:
Mechanisms:
Its uniqueness lies in the four-motor mechanism which maximises the range of postural and pressure management options:
- Independent Tilt in Space
- Independent Backrest Recline
- Independent Leg Rest
- Independent Rise
Tilt and recline systems work predominantly by moving the persons centre of gravity which maintains posture and ergonomic support allows the pannus to be redistributed. This can be used to alleviate pressure, help the respiratory system and allow access for specific skin care tasks. The addition of independent leg rest and rise movements ensures an excellent range of postural and pressure management positions and support.
For further details on this mechanism, with video clips, visit the Mechanisms Section.
Pressure Management Back Cushions:
The Arden Bariatric comes with our deeply comfortable three cushioned, waterfall back, all fibre filled. They can be easily repositioned on the back for the client’s individual requirements and can also have their firmness adjusted by adding or taking away fibres.
For ease of cleaning and replacement the back cushions and covers are easily removable.
Back Blockers for Postural Support:
At the back of both the top and middle waterfall cushions sleeves are fitted to accommodate the blockers to provide additional postural support. The position of each back cushion can be adapted with blockers to adjust the shape and support for the specific needs of each user. The blockers come as standard and replacement pairs can be purchased.
Pressure Management Seat Cushions:
The Arden Bariatric comes as standard with a fixed seat option or you may choose to have our removable and interchangeable seat cushions.
Standard Fixed Options:
You can choose from one of four seat cushion options each with different pressure management features. The seat cushion you choose is then combined with the chaise (single seat and leg rest cover) and is supplied as an integrated seating solution which is fixed to the frame and cannot be removed or changed.
Removable / Interchangeable Options:
You can choose from one of four seat cushions each with different pressure management features. The seat cushion you choose is then combined with the chaise (single seat and leg rest cover) and is supplied as an integrated seating solution.
It can be removed and interchanged with one of the other seat cushion options. You can purchase one or more cushions to support the different needs of individuals who may use this chair.
All covers are removable for cleaning or replacement.
With all these seat cushions we recommend a fabric with four way stretch properties to aid reduction of shear and friction.
Chaise Cover:
The Arden Bariatric benefits from a single, full seat cover. This chaise reduces the risk of pressure areas developing due to pinch points, shear and friction when the chair reclines. Designed with a memory foam insert the chaise offers deep comfort.
The chaise cover and memory foam can be removed for cleaning and replacement.
Glides:
The chair comes with heavy-duty glides built in as standard.
Handset Loop and Deep Pocket:
A handset loop and deep side pocket come as standard on the RHS arm. As an optional extra you can choose to have these positioned differently.
Low Profile Seating:
A Seat Height starting at 406mm (16") allows the person to get the exact chair they need to support health, well-being and independence without compromise.
Optional Accessories:
Seat Depth Adjustment:
The Arden Bariatric comes with the option to alter the seat depth with a choice of two sets of detachable adjuster pads, 25.4mm (1") or 50.8mm (2").
The seat depth should be long enough to support the upper part of the legs whilst allowing the back to rest comfortably on the backrest. If the seat is too long the user is likely to slouch in the chair to get their feet on the floor, which puts extra pressure on their lower spine, if too short it will cause additional pressure on the thighs risking potential skin breakdown.
Extendable Leg Rest*:
An extended leg rest can be fitted at the point of manufacture. This will provide an additional 102mm (4") on the length of the leg rest.
High Wear Areas:
The following covers, in matching fabric, can be purchased to protect high wear areas:
- Full length arm covers
- Head cover
- Seat cover
Headrests:
There are four headrests to choose from, all of which come with a Velcro tab allowing them to fit over the top cushions. For further details on each of these options please refer to the Headrest Section.
- Head roll
- Small head pillow
- Small profile headrest
- Midline headrest
Pressure Care Arm Rest*:
There is the option to choose either Coolform or Memory foam as the arm padding which will add some pressure care comfort. Please ensure you choose a pressure care fabric with these options.
Carer Handset Loop*:
A handset loop can be fitted on the back of the chair for carer use.
Safety Options*:
For further details on the options below please refer to Safety Options Section.
- Accupak rechargeable battery system
- 20 cycle battery back-up system
* Please note that some of these additional features will need to be fitted at the point of manufacture.

Back Cushions:
Waterfall:
Individual fibre filled waterfall cushions, each of which are fully adjustable to accommodate maximum postural support. The waterfall back can be useful for those with mild Kyphosis, Scoliosis and reduced muscle mass on their back.
Seat Cushions:
Easiform:
For standard seating, our softest foam cushion with high quality Reflex foam filler for gentle comfort.
Viscoform:
For those who have good posture and mobility but are seated for greater than one hour at a time and require pressure relief and supported comfort. This cushion has a high-density foam base which offers a supportive and firm seat base with a top layer of memory foam to allow immersion into the cushion, giving stability and a large surface area to reduce pressure levels.
Coolform:
For those sitting for long periods with specific comfort issues such as a high risk of pressure sores. This cushion uses the latest medical grade silicone gel technology allowing pressure to be evenly distributed. The gel conforms to the shape of the body and equalises to body temperature. The gel cells allow air to flow easily and Coolform is totally odourless and hypoallergenic.
Headrest Cushions:
Head Roll:
The head roll is useful to reduce depth for anyone with reduced neck extension or needing to keep their head in a neutral position for tasks such as eating or drinking whilst maximising comfort and reducing effort.
Small Head Pillow:
The small head pillow provides additional comfort for those who may require a softer surface to rest on whilst stopping hyper-extension at the neck when reclined or tilted.
Small Profile Headrest:
Similar to the large profile headrest but support is focused more on the head and neck.
Midline Headrest:
The midline headrest provides postural support for those with some form of midline deficit, following a stroke resulting in proprioceptive deficit or unilateral neglect for example. It is also useful for those with reduced lateral muscle strength or tolerance (such as sternocleinomastoid).
Mechanisms:
Four Motor Mechanism:
The four-motor mechanism is aimed at maximising pressure control through independent Tilt in Space, Backrest Recline, Leg Rest Elevation and Rise movements giving the client and carer that many more positional options. It offers clients and carers some unique movement options that support good posture, pressure management and independent living.
This mechanism is ideal for:
- Those clients who are unable to independently shift their weight either in a reclined or seated position.
- Those with poor skin integrity where there is a high risk of skin breakdown.
- Those clients with complex needs that require carer support to change position without putting their own health at risk whilst carrying out positional changes.
It is an excellent mechanism for plus-sized clients.
Independent Tilt in Space (TIS):
The independent Tilt in Space works to counteract the effect of the person’s pannus. By having control over the angle of tilt you can adjust that person’s centre of gravity’ making them feel more comfortable, supporting the pannus, and reducing the feeling that they are being dragged forward by external forces.
The TIS allows the client to recline whilst maintaining all of the body’s angles as it changes the orientation in space, allowing posture to be maintained and pressure to be redistributed as well as reducing shear and friction.
Independent Backrest Recline:
This allows the person to maintain flexibility over their body’s position, particularly the amount of hip flexion, enabling them to maximise comfort as well as managing health needs.
The back recline works independently of the leg rest enabling a wide range of relaxing positions, from sitting upright and raising the leg rest to relieve tired legs to a fully reclined resting position.
Both reclining and tilt systems can provide pressure relief, increase circulation, improve head, neck and trunk control, improve functional posture and positioning, support safe transfers by various means and minimise variations / fluctuations in the client’s muscular control. Tilt and recline systems work predominantly by moving the persons centre of gravity which whilst maintaining posture and ergonomic support allows the pannus to be redistributed. This can be used to alleviate pressure, help the respiratory system and allow access for specific skin care tasks.
Independent Leg Rest:
This offers the person additional flexibility over positioning, allowing them to use it in conjunction with the recline feature to create the optimal posture for their body shape. The leg rest needs to allow larger calves to maintain 90’ knee flexion and to enable a safe, stable standing position.
The leg elevation can support reduction in oedema and fluid retention. This reduced fluid in the lower limbs allows a user to maintain their standing and walking abilities.
Safety Devices:
20 Cycle Back Up Unit:
This back up system comes as stand-alone unit that can carry out up to 20 chair adjustments. It should only be used as an emergency back-up system.
Accupak Rechargeable Battery System:
The Accupak power pack enables you to use the chair away from a power supply. The battery provides an average of up to 100 adjustment cycles and will need recharging regularly to retain the quality of usage. It can be charged by simply plugging it in. The system sits out of sight under the chair and the charging outlet is built into the side of the chair.
