Repose Haven Rise and Recline
The Haven rise recliner chair is excellent for clients with significant risk of pressure problems or existing pressure ulcers due to the air bag technology within the seat cushion, leg rest and back cushion.
The air cushions work constantly to evenly distribute the user’s weight ensuring that there are no pressure points that might restrict circulation. The high level of pressure relief is due to the air cushions constant movement and repositioning of pressure. This allows for a truly personalised seating experience based on a user’s specific needs with a focus on the person, their activities and the impact of their condition.
It has been designed to provide the highest level of pressure relief for conditions, such as:
- Motor Neurone disease and other neurological conditions
- End of life clients e.g. cancer
- Frail elderly
With a choice of Dual or Single Tilt in Space motors, the Haven is ideal for clients with changing and deteriorating neurological conditions and those who require assisted movement to reduce the problems of skin breakdown. It has a rise option to maintain client independence when they wish to get up and walk as well as choice and control to change position to support rest and purposeful activity.
The Haven comes with a chaise which helps to prevent shear and friction as well as the option of Coolform gel in the arm rests for comfort and additional pressure relief.
The chair can be moved easily from one room to another to reduce the need for manual handling with carers, but also to negate the need to move a client at the end of life where any move can be painful and distressing. Ideal as part of a 24-hour postural care programme it can also be used with either a mobile or overhead hoist to support safe moving and handling techniques for carers.
The chair is ideal for use in health environments including nursing homes or for end of life care clients and residents.
Key Features:
Mechanisms
The Haven is available with either a Dual Tilt in Space (DTIS) or a Single Tilt in Space (STIS) mechanism. The Tilt in Space (TIS) movement allows the seat to back angle to remain the same whilst the whole seating system is tilted backwards which prevents shearing and friction.
The Dual Tilt in Space mechanism has more positional movement options than the STIS as it also has independent backrest recline and independent leg rest movement. This enables a greater range of positions to aid pressure management, postural control and comfort.
Pressure Management Back Cushions
The Haven comes with unique split contoured back comprising of two separate and distinct cushions which are detailed below.
Lower Back Air Cushion
This supports the thoracic and lumbar part of the back through a one cell air bag surrounded by a soft foam surface. It provides a high level of pressure relief due to its constant movement and repositioning of pressure.
Top Head Cushion
The top head cushion is Dacron fibre filled and can be adjusted providing additional head support and comfort. The padding levels can be adjusted through the addition or removal of fibres – simply unzip the head cover to gain access to the fibres.
The cushions can be positioned on the back frame using the Velcro. The covers are removable for replacement and cleaning.
Pressure Management Seat Cushions
The seat cushion contains a single cell air cushion. Users need to have appropriate pelvic stability and core trunk strength to accommodate the air pressure changes and related movement in this single air cushion.
The seat cushion and chaise are combined and the cushions and covers are removable for cleaning and replacement. With this seat cushion we recommend a fabric with four way stretch properties to aid reduction of shear and friction.
Leg Rest Cushion
The single cell airbag provides consistent support across the whole of the thighs, back of the knees and calf and reduces the risk of pressure problems.
Castors
The Haven comes with durable castors built in as standard. There is the option to upgrade to either lockable castors or glides.
Handset Pocket on Arm
This comes fitted as standard on the right hand side arm. As an optional extra you can choose to have this positioned differently.

Back Cushions:
The back is divided into two distinct areas, the thoracic and lumber part of the back being supported by a one cell air bag and the top head cushion is Dacron fibre filled and can be adjusted providing additional head support and comfort.
This back can be useful for anyone with limited ability to independently alter position, for example those who have suffered a stroke or with a brain injury, MND, spinal injury and palliative care. The Dacron, has the ability, to transfer heat which can make it very useful for client groups who rely on regulated temperature such as MS.
The back air cushion and cover can be removed using the zip. The pump is easy to use and can be found at the base of the back. The air level on the cushion is pre-set before despatch.
Seat Cushions:
Air Cushion
For those who currently have or who are at a high risk of pressure problems or sores and who have limited ability to change their position and relieve the pressure on their sacrum and buttocks. The Dacron layer transfers heat which can make it very useful for groups who rely on regulated temperature such as MS.
Users need to have appropriate pelvic stability and core trunk strength to accommodate the air pressure changes and related movement in this single air cushion.
Headrest Cushions:
Head Roll
The head roll is useful to reduce depth for anyone with reduced neck extension or needing to keep their head in a neutral position for tasks such as eating or drinking whilst maximising comfort and reducing effort.
Small Head Pillow
The small head pillow provides additional comfort for those who may require a softer surface to rest on whilst stopping hyper-extension at the neck when reclined or tilted.
Small Profile Headrest
Similar to the large profile headrest but support is focused more on the head and neck.
Large Profile Headrest
This headrest provides a combination of lateral support at the head, neck and shoulders whilst offering additional comfort and reducing neck extension.
Midline Headrest
The midline headrest provides postural support for those with some form of midline deficit, following a stroke resulting in proprioceptive deficit or unilateral neglect for example. It is also useful for those with reduced lateral muscle strength or tolerance (such as sternocleinomastoid).
Mechanisms:
Single Tilt in Space/Dual Tilt in Space / DTIS and STIS (Common features)
The Tilt in Space movement features on both these mechanisms. It allows the seat to back angle to remain the same whilst the whole seating system is tilted backwards. This ensures that the angle of the hips, knees and ankles remain unaffected and the weight on the Ischial Tuberosities is reduced by redistributing the weight through the back. This constant angle also prevents shear and friction during movement.
This feature can also help when transferring someone in a sling as it can support better pelvic positioning by using gravity to position the user in the back of the chair in the optimal position.
Both these mechanisms have a rise position. As the chair rises the seat tilts forward slightly, transferring the weight to the knees whilst taking away the pressure from your hips thus allowing you to walk away more easily from the chair.
Safety Devices:
Styleline Handset with On/Off Button
On some handsets you can choose to have an on/off emergency stop button. Please ask your supplier for the option available on your chair model.
20 Cycle Back Up Unit
This back up system comes as stand-alone unit that can carry out up to 20 chair adjustments. It should only be used as an emergency back-up system.
Full user instructions can be found in your user manual – please read these carefully before using the chair and the 20 cycle back up.
Accupak Rechargeable Battery System
The Accupak power pack enables you to use the chair away from a power supply. The battery provides an average of up to 100 adjustment cycles and will need recharging regularly to retain the quality of usage. It can be charged by simply plugging it in. The system sits out of sight under the chair and the charging outlet is built into the side of the chair.
Please note that the Accupak is not compatible with the Reading Lamp.
Full user instructions can be found in the user manual – please read these carefully before using the chair and Accupak.
Enclosure Skirt
The enclosure skirt hides the mechanism when the chair is either in the full rise or recline positions. This has been designed to stop small pets entering the mechanism whilst in the recline or rise positions.
