Repose C-Air Tilt in Space Rise and Recline Armchair
This C-Air tilt in space rise and recline chair can be used in any health environment or for home care and is designed to blend into the décor.
It is an all-purpose healthcare chair that supports the management of good pressure and posture management and is ideal for:
- Frail elderly
- Osteoarthritis
- Rheumatoid arthritis
Its uniqueness lies in the ability to tailor the chair to a user’s individual measurements for comfort, postural and pressure management – truly making it a bespoke solution.
The Tilt in Space (STIS) and Dual Motor mechanisms make this chair ideal for clients with changing and deteriorating neurological conditions. It allows for multi positioning of the legs to reduce oedema and fluid retention, leading to increased comfort. The positional options can support people who have problems swallowing as well as those with blood pressure e.g. postural hypotension.
The chair can also be used as part of a 24-hour postural care programme to reduce the risk of skin breakdown and its features also ensure that a user can be repositioned to allow for optional occupational performance, thus allowing an individual to engage in activities they want to do.
The chair can be used with either a mobile or overhead hoist to support safe moving and handling techniques for carers.
Key Features:
Made to Measure:
Professionals love this chair as they can design the chair to the exact size requirements of their clients.
Choose the dimensions of the:
- Seat Width
- Seat Height
- Seat Depth
- Back Height
- Arm Rest Height
Mechanisms:
The C-air is available with a Dual Tilt in Space (DTIS) or Single Tilt in Space (STIS) mechanism or a Standard Dual Motor Mechanism.
On the DTIS and STIS mechanisms the Tilt in Space movement allows the seat back angle to remain the same whilst the whole seating system is tilted backwards which prevents shearing and friction.
The Dual Tilt in Space mechanism has more positional movement options than the STIS one as it also has independent backrest recline and independent leg rest movement. This enables a greater range of positions to aid pressure management, postural control and comfort.
Finally, the Standard Dual mechanism has no Tilt in Space feature, but it does have independent backrest recline and independent leg rest movement to provide a range of postural positions.
There is also the option of VAL Technology on both the Single and Dual Tilt in Space mechanisms but only on the 159kg (25 stone mechanism). This optional mechanism can be fitted under the chair and allows the rise angle to be set to support individuals to a standing position. Choose from three positions 10º, 20º or 30º.
Pressure Management Back Cushions:
The C-air comes with a fixed waterfall back as standard. However, there is a choice of a removable back cushion. Choose from seven interchangeable pressure management back cushions that enable the chair to be adapted to a single user’s changing needs or to adapt the chair to another user. This ensures greater longevity of its usage.
In addition, all removable cushions can be repositioned to suit a user’s individual seating preferences and fibres added or removed from fibre filled cushions to adjust firmness. Covers can also be removed for cleaning and replacement.
Pressure Management Seat Cushions:
The C-air comes with a choice of nine interchangeable seat cushions each with different pressure management features. You can purchase one or more cushions to support the different needs of individuals who may use this chair.
Cushions and covers are removable for cleaning or replacement. With all these seat cushions we recommend a fabric with four way stretch properties to aid reduction of shear and friction.
Chaise Cover:
The C-air benefits from a single, full seat cover. This chaise reduces the risk of pressure areas developing due to pinch points and shear and friction when the chair reclines. Designed with a memory foam insert the chaise offers deep comfort.
The chaise cover and memory foam can be removed for cleaning and replacement.
Castors:
The C-air comes with durable castors built in as standard. There is an option to upgrade to either heavy duty lockable castors or glides.
Loop for Handset and Side Pocket:
Both these come as standard on the C-air and are fitted to the left hand side of the chair. There is the option to change these to the right hand side and to have a pocket on both sides.
Optional Accessories:
Arm Rest Designs*
The C-air has a choice of three different arm rest styles as shown below. With the wide arm style there is the option to upgrade to a Memory foam or Coolform gel interior with a vapour permeable fabric.
- Scroll
- Wooden
- Wide Flat
Removable Arms*:
A removable arm rest can be fitted to the RHS, LHS or both sides of the chair.
Seat Depth Adjustment:
The C-air comes with the option to alter the seat depth with a choice of two sets of detachable adjuster pads, 25.4mm (1") or 50.8mm (2").
The seat depth should be long enough to support the upper part of the legs whilst allowing the back to rest comfortably on the backrest. If the seat is too long the user is likely to slouch in the chair to get their feet on the floor, which puts extra pressure on their lower spine, if too short it will cause additional pressure on the thighs risking potential skin breakdown.
High Wear Areas:
The following covers, in matching fabric, can be purchased to protect high wear areas:
- Full length arm covers
- Head cover
- Seat cover
Headrests:
There are five headrests to choose from, all of which come with a Velcro tab allowing them to fit over the top cushions. For further details on each of these options please refer to the Headrests Section.
- Head roll
- Small head pillow
- Small profile headrest
- Large profile headrest
- Midline headrest
Castors or Glides*:
There is an option to upgrade to either:
Heavy duty lockable castors, but please note that there will be an increase in the seat height of 25.4mm (1”). Glides for wooden or laminated floors. In addition, there is a choice of anti-slip cups for the glides.
Carer Handset Loop*:
This is fitted to the back of the chair for easy carer access.
Magnet for Handset*:
Hidden under the fabric on the side of the arm rest it connects to the magnet in the handset.
Side Pocket*:
This can be fitted onto either side of the chair.

Back Cushions:
Waterfall:
Individual fibre filled waterfall cushions, each of which are fully adjustable to accommodate maximum postural support. The waterfall back can be useful for those with mild Kyphosis, Scoliosis and reduced muscle mass on their back.
Waterfall Lateral:
The central cushion in this soft fibre filled waterfall back comes with in-built lateral supports which can provide some trunk support for those who have limited trunk control or balance, useful for those with early stages of neurological conditions such as MS or a Stroke survivor with limited residual impairments.
Large Profile Headrest With Waterfall:
The profile headrest conforms to the head and shoulders which can be useful for individuals with limited neck control with the waterfall back providing soft adjustable lumbar support.
Comfort Lateral:
Soft fibre filled back with lateral support, which can be useful for those who have limited trunk control or balance. It can be useful for those with early stages of neurological conditions such as MS or a Stroke survivor.
Large Profile Headrest With Support Lateral:
Firm foam lateral back cushion with soft fibre filled profile headrest can provide support for those who have limited trunk control or balance. The profile headrest can provide support to keep the head in good midline alignment which can be useful for those with early stages of neurological conditions such as MS or a Stroke survivor with limited residual impairments.
Support Lateral:
A foam filled back providing firmer lateral support with a soft fibre filled headrest. The firm lateral support maintains midline trunk alignment which can be useful for those post Stroke or early to mid-stages of neurological conditions.
Large Profile Headrest With Comfort Lateral:
This back offers soft fibre filled cushions to provide head, shoulder and trunk support, which can be useful for older users who have lost some muscle control, supporting them in a good postural position with the head in a neutral position. This back can also be useful for early stages of neurological conditions to maintain good positioning without restricting activities.
Seat Cushions:
Viscoform:
For those who have good posture and mobility but are seated for greater than one hour at a time and require pressure relief and supported comfort. This cushion has a high-density foam base which offers a supportive and firm seat base with a top layer of memory foam to allow immersion into the cushion, giving stability and a large surface area to reduce pressure levels.
Foamaform:
For those who have good core stability and posture, are sitting for more than one hour at a time and require low to medium pressure relief combined with a high level of comfort. This cushion has different layers of high-density foam, offering a supportive seat base which allows the user’s bottom to be immersed into the cushion. It provides stability, a large surface area reducing pressure levels and a high level of personal comfort.
Celliform:
For those sitting for long periods with specific comfort issues such as a high risk of pressure sores. Gelacell has a unique cell matrix that distributes pressure across the contact area, as it contours and yields in response to weight redistribution. Gelacell absorbs body heat, reducing the risk of creating an environment that could increase pressure risks, the grid design also encourages air circulation. Gelacell is clinically tested and passes all dermatological tests for skin contact.
Maximum weight of user 127 kg (20 stone)
Liquiform:
For those who have good posture and mobility but sit for long periods of time and require pressure relief and supported comfort. Recommended for people with limited muscle bulk or at risk of excessive weight loss. This cushion has a high-density foam which offers a supportive and firm seat base. The foam is topped with a fluid liquid gel in a soft silicone cover which provides a high level of pressure relief. The liquid gel helps to dissipate heat and constantly adapts to the user’s movement.
Coolform:
For those sitting for long periods with specific comfort issues such as a high risk of pressure sores. This cushion uses the latest medical grade silicone gel technology allowing pressure to be evenly distributed. The gel conforms to the shape of the body and equalises to body temperature. The gel cells allow air to flow easily and Coolform is totally odourless and hypoallergenic.
Dynaform:
For those at very high risk of developing pressure sores or a history of sores where the highest priority is to prevent further pressure damage. The Dynaform cushion is a dynamic alternating air cushion, which constantly changes the air levels within its air cells to recreate the effect of normal body movements, which provides constant pressure redistribution to prevent pressure build up.
Minimum weight of user 40 kg (6 stone 4lbs)
Maximum weight of user 121 kg (19 stone)
Headrest Cushions:
Head Roll:
The head roll is useful to reduce depth for anyone with reduced neck extension or needing to keep their head in a neutral position for tasks such as eating or drinking whilst maximising comfort and reducing effort.
Small Head Pillow:
The small head pillow provides additional comfort for those who may require a softer surface to rest on whilst stopping hyper-extension at the neck when reclined or tilted.
Small Profile Headrest:
Similar to the large profile headrest but support is focused more on the head and neck.
Large Profile Headrest:
This headrest provides a combination of lateral support at the head, neck and shoulders whilst offering additional comfort and reducing neck extension.
Midline Headrest:
The midline headrest provides postural support for those with some form of midline deficit, following a stroke resulting in proprioceptive deficit or unilateral neglect for example. It is also useful for those with reduced lateral muscle strength or tolerance (such as sternocleinomastoid).
Mechanisms:
Single Tilt in Space/Dual Tilt in Space/Standard Dual Motor
DTIS and STIS Mechanisms (Common features):
The Tilt in Space movement features on both these mechanisms. It allows the seat to back angle to remain the same whilst the whole seating system is tilted backwards. This ensures that the angle of the hips, knees and ankles remain unaffected and the weight on the Ischial Tuberosities is reduced by redistributing the weight through the back. This constant angle also prevents shear and friction during movement.
This feature can also help when transferring someone in a sling as it can support better pelvic positioning by using gravity to position the user in the back of the chair in the optimal position.
Both these mechanisms have a rise position. As the chair rises the seat tilts forward slightly, transferring the weight to the knees whilst taking away the pressure from your hips thus allowing you to walk away more easily from the chair. The seat angle can be changed to provide further support by choosing the VAL Technology.
DTIS (Only):
As well as the Tilt in Space and Rise functions, described above, the Dual Tilt in Space mechanism also features an independent backrest recline and independent leg rest movement:
The independent recline allows the user to maintain flexibility over their body’s position, particularly the amount of hip flexion, enabling them to maximise comfort as well as managing health needs.
The independent leg rest offers the user additional flexibility over positioning, allowing them to either use it in conjunction with the recline feature to create the optimal posture for their body shape.
Standard Dual Motor:
The Standard Dual Motor comes with an independent backrest recline and independent leg rest enables a whole range of movements and positions to aid posture and pressure management. These movement features are described above in DTIS (only). It also has a rise function for ease of standing, with optional VAL technology available all as described above.
VAL Technology:
An optional mechanism can be fitted under the chair that allows the rise angle to be set to support individuals to a standing position. Choose from three positions 10º, 20º or 30º. The higher the angle the lower the front of the chair becomes, providing more support when moving from a sitting to a standing position. A simple pin system allows you to set the angle required.
Safety Devices:
Styleline Handset with On/Off Button:
On some handsets you can choose to have an on/off emergency stop button. Please ask your supplier for the option available on your chair model.
Accupak Rechargeable Battery System:
The Accupak power pack enables you to use the chair away from a power supply. The battery provides an average of up to 100 adjustment cycles and will need recharging regularly to retain the quality of usage. It can be charged by simply plugging it in. The system sits out of sight under the chair and the charging outlet is built into the side of the chair.
Please note that the Accupak is not compatible with the Reading Lamp.
20 Cycle Back Up Unit:
This back up system comes as stand-alone unit that can carry out up to 20 chair adjustments. It should only be used as an emergency back-up system.
Enclosure Skirt:
The enclosure skirt hides the mechanism when the chair is either in the full rise or recline positions. This has been designed to stop small pets entering the mechanism whilst in the recline or rise positions.
